At Storm Procurement, we’re excited to welcome Ian Stafford, our new Senior Account Manager to the team. With over two decades of experience in the heavy industries sector, we caught up with Ian to learn more about his career journey, what drives him, and what he’s most excited about as he joins Storm Procurement.
From YTS Trainee to Industry Expert
Ian’s story begins in the early 1990s with the Youth Training Scheme (YTS), a program that helped many young people get their start in industry.
“I’m a product of the old YTS Scheme,” Ian says. “I started out working for various engineering companies in the Colchester area while studying Business Management NVQs and a CIPS Diploma.”
That foundation gave him hands-on experience and a solid understanding of both the technical and commercial sides of the business, skills he says that have shaped his career ever since.
Over the years, Ian has developed a strong expertise in MRO spares, supporting heavy industries across the globe. His deep understanding of this field and his ability to build relationships have been key to his success.
“My career has progressed by building valuable relationships with both suppliers and end customers over more than 20 years,” he explains. “It’s all about trust and consistency.”
When it comes to professional growth, Ian believes that keeping an open mind is essential.
“I approach learning new aspects of my field with open-mindedness. I always like to embrace something new.”
A Fresh Challenge
So, what attracted Ian to Storm Procurement?
“A fresh challenge,” he says. “I’m joining a great team with a great positive culture.”
He’s looking forward to helping drive growth, exploring new markets, and doing it all while enjoying the process.
“I want to help increase turnover in new areas, build new relationships — and have fun doing it!”
Looking ahead, Ian sees exciting opportunities for Storm Procurement, particularly in the Middle East and in the growing renewable energy sector.
“There’s huge potential to explore diverse industries in the Middle East,” he says. “With renewables becoming more prevalent, there’s also the possibility of starting new joint ventures with trusted partners.”
When entering new markets, Ian believes success comes down to adaptability and empathy.
“It’s important to adapt to customers’ needs with a willingness to understand their culture and the challenges they face.”
At Storm Procurement, we’re thrilled to have Ian on board, bringing not just years of experience, but also a genuine enthusiasm for growth.
