Looking Back at 2019
Looking Back at 2019

As we start a new year in 2020, we thought we would have a look back at what has happened in the last year, and it has certainly been a busy one! This article will highlight our staffs’ accomplishments and our favourite moments from 2019.

In 2019 we saw exponential growth across all sectors of both our UK and SA offices. We first opened 13 years ago in 2006 and have grown to become one of the largest specialised procurement companies in the UK. By making the move to a new state-of-the-art office with larger warehousing facilities we can now progress with our development plans. Furthermore, our SA office is currently undergoing a complete redesign, this allows us to accommodate further growth and enables us to make the most of the existing space by offering employees more choice on how and where they work. Our warehouse in SA also underwent a redesign as we are now able to process and store more stock than ever before. In 2019 we began the plans to open a new office in Mozambique, something which we are really looking forward to seeing come together in 2020.

Not only have we grown as a company and our office space has expanded, but our extended family has grown. In 2019, 3 of our esteemed staff welcomed a new family member. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them as they enter this new year as parents.

In 2019 we paid recognition to our staffs hard work, we made the decision to promote three of our experienced sales team members to ensure we give each of our clients the attention and support they require to achieve their goals, Bradley Mitchell, James Alexander and William Murray; all three individuals have worked hard throughout the year and we would like to take this moment to recognise their success at Storm Procurement. Congratulations on the promotion to Account Lead!

We also saw the very well-deserved appointment of Shaun Kimpton to Head of Sales for Mining across both offices. Shaun has been with us for 7 years and has worked diligently and has become an integral member of the business, so congratulations!

We have also celebrated a very important anniversary in 2019, Stuart Addis has been with us for 10 years now, joining us when the company was young, he has helped develop the whole team and has been a crucial member of Storm Procurement. We will take this opportunity to say a huge thank you for the hard work and dedication Stu has shown over the years.

2019 was also a year of travel for us. We began the year by travelling to Ghana, whilst here we visited several mine sites and oil subsidiaries, these trips are an opportunity to explore new business ventures with prospective new clients but more importantly nurturing the relationships we already have with our current client base.

Whilst in Ghana, Shaun, took some time to make a very special visit to Yayaaso D/A Model School, where we delivered a collection of our favourite childhood books; We are proud to not only work in some beautiful places in Africa but to also give back to those communities in which we work. We have also continued our support of sponsorship of two school children in the Akyem Ntronang and Yaayaso Amanfrom communities in Ghana. Agyei and Charity have been reported to be very well and are enjoying their education. We are always very excited to receive updates of their progress and to find out that the children have been making good progress in their studies at school, making us very proud of them both. It’s truly a privilege to be able to help them on their way in life and to know that we are making a difference to the local community we work in.

In February 2019 Paul Alexander visited the Indaba Mining Conference in Cape Town, this is one of the largest mining investment events. This event allowed Paul to build existing relationships and develop new ones. This event will defiantly be one we will visit in the future! Jack Devitt our Oil and Gas Procurement Manager also took two exciting trips in 2019, he visited both Houston Texas and Yantai in China; In Houston, Jack attended the OTC Conference where he met new clients and built on his relationships with existing suppliers and clients, and in China, he focused on our suppliers.

In 2019 we also welcomed a new finance manager, Emily Griffin, since joining us Emily has visited SA to meet the team in South Africa, unfortunately, whilst out there she witnessed the brilliant yet devastating defeat of the England Rugby team to the Springboks. We also welcomed Daniel Alvarado as a new International Business Development Manager, he has been working closely with the Oil and Gas team, to identify sales leads and maintain a good working relationship with new contacts. Our Marketing team also welcomed a new marketing assistant to help develop Storm Procurement's presence in the new digital age.

Our partnership with SMS bloomed during 2019. The SMS office is based in Nouakchott, Mauritania. We have been working closely together to provide a complete procurement solution on both a local level and to the local market. In 2019 we have achieved a turnover in excess of half a million dollars. This relationship allows our customers to maximise the SMS’ warehouse in the Nouadhibou free-zone for holding stock, we also aim tp achieve at least a 40ft full container load of equipment (tires and steel) shipped monthly. We are excited to watch this relationship develop further in 2020.

Another exciting development of 2019 was the formation of the Manila Team. This is a newly opened office to assist with our international supply chain as part of our expansion and desire to grow. During 2020 we have hopes to develop the Manila Team further.

We would also like to say a huge congratulations to the Mining procurement team, 2019 was a great year for the team as they have secured some fantastic forward planning opportunities, as they work with some of the biggest names in Mining. Our Oil & Gas team have secured 3- and 5-year contracts with 2 of the world leading International Oil Companies; with others in the pipeline for 2020. Thus, ensuring we have all the necessary foundations in place to assist with further growth in 2020.

2019 was truly a great year for us, we have seen great business development and would like to thank both our clients and suppliers for their continued support. We are truly excited to see where this year takes us and what our article this time next year will be saying.
